On his arrival in France in April 1918 he was transferred to Princess Victoria’s (Royal Irish Fusiliers) and posted to the 9th (North Irish Horse) Battalion. Between 4 September and 16 October 1918 he earned the Military Medal twice and the Distinguished Conduct Medal, making him the most decorated soldier of the 9th Royal Irish Fusiliers. After the war he was commissioned into the Royal Air Force and, in the Second World War, Wing Commander F S Homersham earned an Air Force Cross to add to his other awards.
