On the west side above the dedication is inscribed MONVMENTVM ET PIGNVS AMORIS (A Monument and Pledge of Love); on the north side the inscription is POST EOS LVCET VIA (The Way Shines after Them); and on the south side above the names of the war dead is inscribed IN LOCO SANCTO STABUNT (They Rest in a Sacred Place); there is no inscription on the east side.
