Ruth Elliott was the daughter of Lucius P. Elliott, a wealthy Racine, Wisconsin manufacturer. Having decided to become a professional dancer, she had her debut with Robert Bowlby on 24 February 1914 at the Hotel Pfister in Milwaukee.
