214930 Lieutenant David Adam Wallace, United States Army Air Forces was killed in action on 10 March 1943 in Latin America. He was born on 31 December 1903 at Spartanburg, South Carolina, and graduated in 1925 from Wofford College, where his father, Dr David Duncan Wallace, was on the faculty. On 30 December 1933 he married Ella Levering Ruffin; they had a son, David Duncan Wallace II. Prior to enlisting, he worked as a financial campaign organiser in Henrico, Virginia. He is commemorated on the East Coast Memorial in Battery Park, New York City, which ‘commemorates those soldiers, sailors, marines, coast guardsmen, merchant marines and airmen who met their deaths in the service of their country in the western waters of the Atlantic Ocean during World War II’, and by a memorial stone in Hollywood Cemetery, Richmond.
